The State of Florida carefully regulates the Private Security industry in Florida.  Before a company may offer ANY type of security services (security guard, bodyguard, Executive Protection) that company MUST be properly licensed by the State of Florida. 

What is a "proper license"?  Well, it depends on the kind of service you require. 

If you need a security guard in a uniform, the company that supplies the security guard needs a "B" license.  The actual security guard needs a "D" security guard license - AND THE GUARD MUST WEAR A UNIFORM while working.  If you require an armed guard in a uniform, that security guard needs a "D" Security Guard license AND a "G" Statewide Firearm license. 

A lot of ordinary security guards really, really, REALLY want to be bodyguards.  Because of this little loophole, designed as a short-term, temporary "exception to the rule", some completely unqualified (and  unlicensed!) individuals have put up some pretty slick websites and are pretending to be "bodyguards," when in reality, they are just security guards.  DON'T BE FOOLED!

If you need a "Bodyguard" or Executive Protection officer wearing plain clothes (not in uniform) who is  carrying a concealed weapon, the company who provides THAT guard MUST HAVE an "A" license.  The bodyguard needs BOTH a "C" (or "CC" intern) Private Investigator license and, if armed, a "G" Statewide Firearm License.
 
An "A" license is just as easy to get as a "B" license - if the company seeking the license is qualified by an owner with the background, training, experience and credentials to qualify for an "A" license. 


BEFORE YOU RETAIN THE SERVICES OF A COMPANY OFFERING "BODYGUARD SERVICES" OR EXECUTIVE PROTECTION SERVICES, DEMAND TO KNOW THE COMPANY'S "A" LICENSE NUMBER.
